Policy Approach

About ICAP  Policy Approach
ICAP’s approach to alcohol policy development relies on three basic principles:
  • drinking patterns—describing the individuals who drink, the contexts within which drinking takes place, and the behaviors associated with drinkingare the most reliable predictors of outcomes;
  • targeted interventions aimed at those drinking patterns where risk may be elevated are key in  maximizing the benefits and minimizing the harms related to alcohol consumption;
  • partnerships among all relevant stakeholders are an important tool for implementing multi-component approaches to prevention and policy.
